By 2100, the world’s energy system will be radically different. Renewable energy like solar, wind, hydroelectricity, and bio-fuels will make up a large share of the energy mix, and nuclear energy, too, will have a place.

The step-change in the growth rate of energy demand is being experienced due to rising population and economic development. After 2015, easily accessible supplies of oil and gas may no longer keep up with demand. As a result, there may not be any choice but to add other sources of energy.

Source/System Estimated Potential Achievement as on March 31, 2008
Wind Power 45,195 8,757.00
Bio Power (Agro residues and plantations) 16,881 606.00
Bagasse congeneration 5,000 800.00
Small hydro power (up to 25 MW) 15,000 2,180.00
Energy recovery from waste (MW) 2,700 55.25
Solar photovoltaic power - 2.12
Total 84,776 12,400.37

In future, India will face large-scale energy shortages. The use of renewable energy will significantly contribute towards overcoming the energy and development challenges in the region. India needs strong partners in the shaping of her future energy supply. The wind energy will contribute the maximum here. The other components will include small hydro projects up to 25 MW, bio-mass, solar energy, etc.

OBJECTIVES
  • Energy Tech’09 aims at helping accelerate the growth of energy sector in India and thereby, assist in achieving the target, "Energy Independence" and "Power for all by 2012", through the following:
Highlights the status, projections in each segment in energy and related sectors and the opportunities offered for greater public-private participation.
  • Showcase latest technologies, products and services to harness energy projects speedily, qualitatively and economically.
  • Indentify roadblocks, if any, with the help of experts in the field, both from India and abroad and recommend how those could be removed/surmounted.
